雖然時代一直在進步、改變，但是「童婚」（Child Marriage）在今時今日仍存在於世界各地。在巴基斯坦開伯爾-普什圖省近日就傳出了一名72歲老翁，花費50萬巴基斯坦盧比（約新台幣6萬）買了一名12歲女童，並強迫對方跟他結婚。所幸警方獲報後在婚禮當天強行進入翁家中救出女童，但是女童的父親卻趁亂逃跑了。

童婚（Child Marriage）雖然在部分地區仍相當常見，但依舊因為不合常理的「操作」而被視為一大陋習；葉門地區曾有一起知名慘案，年僅8歲的女童拉玟（Rawan）被迫嫁給40歲的成年男子，後在新婚之夜的行房過程中，因為下體嚴重撕裂傷，導致失血過多身亡。即便類似事件時有所聞，此案時隔多年再度引起討論，也帶動國際社會對相關話題的關注。
